OUTLINE FOR SUCCESSFUL SURVEILLANCE
#1 Do you have the answers to these questions? Why is surveillance needed at this time? What do I expect will be proven? How will the videotape obtained be used?
#2 Research the surveillance firm Level of experience Reporting format and fees References Insurance limits and coverage How long in business? Out of state provider claiming to be familiar with local area
#3 Provide adequate information of subject Detailed description of subject or photo Detailed description of residence with directions What is suspected Habits, hobbies, leisure activities, if known Vehicles normally driven Family composition
#4 Surveillance of the subject away from their daily location Medical appointments Cabins or lake homes on weekends Vacations Sporting events Children's activities (sport activities) Flea markets Other recreational activities
#5 Timing Special activity or a known coming event Prior to and subsequent to a deposition, IME or FCE Opening fishing & hunting (two days prior) Holidays
#6 Specific detailed instructions What are the subjects known injury, limits and restrictions? All activity to be filmed or only certain specific activity? What do you need? Daily known habits and activity Establish a daily reporting time to you Legal means only--no trespassing. No jurisdiction on reservations. Tailing if leaving town. How far or how long?
#7 Be flexible Surveillance is not an exact science There are many uncontrollable factors Be available to give directions as situations arise Tomorrow is another day
